Wall Art in Wood & Glass

Counterpoint is a one-of-a-kind wall-mounted art piece exploring balance, rhythm, and material contrast. Inspired by mid-century modern design, the composition brings together layered hardwoods of varying depths and tones, arranged in a mirrored but inverted pattern to create movement without symmetry.

The piece features hand-made glass panels crafted by a Dorset glass workshop, adding colour and focus against the warmth of the timber. The central spalted beech element acts as a visual anchor, highlighting the natural variation and character found in each material. American walnut and American cherry are paired with cherry wood sourced from a tree felled in the glassmaker’s own garden, giving the piece a strong sense of place and story.

Finished with Walrus Oil Furniture Butter to enhance the grain while remaining natural and sustainable, Counterpoint is designed to be both tactile and architectural. The work mounts securely to the wall using a French cleat system, allowing it to sit cleanly and confidently within a space.

Designed and made by hand by myself in Dorset, this is a unique, one-off piece.
